Regular Season Over, Up Next, The Playoffs
The Hung and the Breastless
The Hung and Breastless went 2-0-1 this past week. HB finished the season undefeated in the past 2 weeks to finish first place, moving ahead of the slumping Collective. They started their day giving up a late goal for a 5-5 tie against the Flames. Peter Wolters completed the hattrick with an empty net goal against the Collective winning 8-3. Ian Stevens also had a hattrick in the game. Going into the final game of the day, HB needed just 1 point to take first place. They were down 3-4 against the Predators late in the game. Shawn Phillips scored the tying goal and shortly after, Ian scored the winner and HB took first place with a 5-4 win. Ian led his team's scoring this week with 9 points. Ian, Peter, and Dan LeBlanc tied with most goals at 4.
The Flames
The Flames finished the week with a 1-1-1 record. They started their day playing the spoiler roll by beating the Collective 6-5 with 2 late goals. Dennis Moffitt tied the game and then Phil Cronkite scored the winner with a minute left. Jim Taylor had the hattrick in the game. In their 2nd game, Dennis completed the hattrick as he scored the late tying goal to finish against HB 5-5. This turned out to be a playoff preview and if this game was any indication, it should be a good best of five series. Despite Jim and Dennis each scoring another hattrick in their final game of the day, the Flames still lost 6-8 to the Predators. Dennis led his team in scoring this week with 11 points. He also led with 7 goals.
The Collective
The Collective ended up with a 1-2 record in the final week of the regular season. This allowed HB to take over and finish first place. After going 6 weeks in a row with a winning record the Collective went 2-4 in their final 2 weeks. They started the day against the Flames and came out on fire, taking a quick 3-0 lead. The fire was slowly put out by the Flames who capitalized on 2 late goals to hand the Collective the 5-6 loss, despite Grant Donovan's hattrick. They rebounded with a 5-1 win over the Predators but then lost a key game against HB 3-8 giving up an empty-netter. Grant scored his 2nd hattrick of the day but was the only player to score for the Collective in the game. Grant led his team in scoring this week with 9 points. He also had the most goals with 8.
The Predators
The Predators finished the day with a 1-2 record. The Preds were missing some key players and only had 5 runners. They lost their first game 1-5 against the Collective but rebounded with an 8-6 win over the Flames. Troy Doyle scored the hattrick in the game. In their last game of the day they went up against HB. The Collective were hoping the Preds would be the spoiler for HB's run to first place, but after giving up a couple of late goals, they had to settle for a 4-5 loss. This means the Predators will face the Collective in the best of five first round of the playoffs. The Preds had the edge in the season series. Troy led his team's scoring this week with 9 points, with Art McCoy scoring the most goals with 4.
