The Collective
The Collective hung on to a slim lead in first place by going 2-1 this past week. They started by continuing their dominance against the Flames, defeating them for the 4th time, now outscoring them 39-17 during the 4 games. Rick Bartlett, with a few lucky bounces, scored the hattrick in the win against the Predators. The Collective are the only team to beat the Preds so far with Kelvin Hoyt in nets. HB ended the Collective's 6 game winning streak by jumping out to a quick start and never letting the Collective get anything going. Grant Donovan and Mark Whitlock let the team this week with 7 points each while Rick Bartlett netted the most goals with 5.
The Predators
The Predators went 1-1-1 for the day keeping it a tight race for first place only 2 points back of the Collective. All of the Predators games have ended with a team winning by 3 goals or less. Half of their games have been within 1 goal. After losing their first game by 2, they rebounded against the Flames winning by 1 goal for the 2nd straight week. The Preds looked like they'd take over 2nd place in their final game of the day with a couple of late goals against HB to take the lead but gave up a late goal and had to settle for the tie for the 2nd straight week. Art McCoy led his team's scoring for the day with 8 points while Yvon Mayer scored the most goals with 4.
The Flames
The Flames with a 1-2 record for the day, got their win against HB for the 2nd week in a row, winning both games by 1 goal. Troy MacDonald scored 4 goals and Scott Praught scored a late goal to give the Flames the much needed win after giving up their first game and then losing a close game against the Preds later on. The Flames picked up a replacement for Richard Morneau with Pat Nolan playing nets, which allowed Terry McFadzen to add to the defense. The Flames also added another new player named David. Welcome to the league guys. Jim Taylor led his team in scoring with 11 points on the day, which included 5 goals.
The Hung and the Breastless
The Hung and Breastless slipped 1 point out of first place, going 1-1-1 for the day. Despite Doug Tayor's hattrick in the first game, a late goal gave the Flames the win. Their win came against the Collective where they dominated the game winning 8-3 on the strength of Peter Wolters 4 goal game and Darryl Moorcraft's solid goaltending. Peter now has 3 hattricks against the Collective. Their 3rd game saw them give up the lead late in the game giving up 2 goals but Doug Taylor scored late to tie it and it ended 5-5. Doug led his team in scoring for the day with 8 points, while Peter scored the most goals with 6.
